Eligibility for Membership:

The following qualities are required to become the member of the Institution:

i. Age shall not be less than 18 years.

ii. Be an Indian or Foreigner.

iii. Must follow the rules of the Institution.

iv. Having good moral character and teetotaler.

The Society shall have the following categories of members: (i) Honorary Fellows, (ii) Fellow Members, (iii) Member (iv) Associate , (v) Associate Intern Members, (vi) Student Members (vii) Sustaining Members.

A certificate of membership shall be granted to all members of IIBD showing the year of membership. These certificates and Graduate Diploma of membership shall be the property of IIBD and it must be returned to IIBD after the termination of the membership

Honorary Fellow: A person eminent in the field of BUILDING DESIGN may, after being duly

nominated by the executive committee and the nomination ratified by a general body meeting of the Society, becomes an Honorary Fellow of the Society.

A Honorary Fellow Member shall be granted a graduate diploma of membership.

A Honorary Fellow member can use the title of the “Approved Building Designer” without making any Payment of fee.

The number of Honorary Fellows cannot exceed one percent of the life membership at any given time.

A Honorary Fellow Member will not have requirement of CE hours.

Fellow Member: An eminent and outstanding professional who is a Member and having a graduate/post graduate or possess *stage-I and stage-II examination of the IIBD or membership of an Indian or foreign professional Institute related to building design technology or he has given exemption of the stage-I and stage-II examination of the IIBD and at least ten years professional experience in the field of building design and who has made notable contribution to the field of BUILDING DESIGN can be elected as a Fellow of the Society, in a manner to be decided by the executive committee.

A Fellow Member shall be allowed to use affix F.I.I.B.D.(India).

A Fellow Member shall be granted a graduate diploma of membership after becoming a life member.

A Fellow member can use the title of the “Approved Building Designer” after making Payment of a requisite amount of fee as determined by the Executive committee from time to time.

A Fellow member must be a licensed building designer/engineer from regulated area or development authority or municipal corporation.

A Fellow Member will must obtain Two Hundred CE (continuing education) hours in each and every year.

The Executive committee may waive requirements of a formal degree or experience in special deserving cases.

R.4.3 Member: Any person having a graduate Degree/Diploma or possess stage-I and stage-II examination of the IIBD or he has given exemption of the *stage-I and stage-II examination of the IIBD or membership of an Indian or foreign professional Institute related to building design technology with at least five years professional experience and associated with the building design field, research, teaching, application, transfer and promotion of BUILDING DESIGN technology is eligible to apply for membership after paying requisite amount of admission and membership fees.

If approved by the executive committee, he shall become a Member of the Society under clause (C) of Rule 1 and shall be entitled to the rights and privileges of the Society as stated in rule 5.

A member can use the title of the “Approved Building Designer” after making Payment of a requisite amount of fee as determined by the Executive committee from time to time.

A Member shall be allowed to use affix M.I.I.B.D. (India).

A Member shall be granted a graduate diploma of membership after becoming a life member.

A Member must be a licensed building designer/engineer from regulated area or development authority or municipal corporation.

A Member will must obtain Two Hundred CE (continuing education) hours in each and every year.

The executive committee may waive requirements of a formal degree or experience in special deserving cases.

Any person eligible to apply for Fellow or Member may choose to apply for being a Life Member after paying the requisite amount of fee. If approved by the Executive committee , he shall become a Life Member of the Society. A Life Member shall be entitled, throughout his life, to the same rights and privileges as a Fellow Member or Member. However, during his stay abroad he shall have to pay difference of dues as determined by the Executive committee based on the merits of each case.

R.4.4 Associate: Any person having a graduate Degree/Diploma or possess *stage-I and stage-II examination of the IIBD or he has given exemption thereof with at least five years professional experience under a licensed building designer of regulated area or development authority or municipal corporation and associated with the building design field, research, teaching, application, transfer and promotion of BUILDING DESIGN technology but not having a license of building designer/engineer from regulated area or development authority or municipal corporation is eligible to apply for Associate category after paying requisite amount of admission and membership fees.

If approved by the Executive committee , he shall become an Associate of the Society under clause (C) of Rule 1(member with non-voting rights) and shall be entitled to the rights and privileges of the Society as stated in rule 5.4 only. After getting a license of a building designer/engineer from regulated area or development authority or municipal corporation he can apply for the Member.

An Associate can use the title of the “Approved Building Designer” after making Payment of a requisite amount of fee as determined by the executive committee from time to time.

An Associate shall be allowed to use affix A.I.I.B.D. (India).

An Associate will must obtain Two Hundred CE (continuing education) hours in each and every year.

The Executive committee may waive requirements of a formal degree or experience in special deserving cases.

R.4.5 Associate Intern: Any person having a graduate Degree/Diploma or possess *stage-I and stage-II examination of the IIBD or he has given exemption thereof without any professional experience and associated with the building design field, research, teaching, application, transfer and promotion of BUILDING DESIGN technology but not having a license of building designer/engineer from regulated area or development authority or municipal corporation is eligible to apply for Associate Intern category after paying requisite amount of admission and membership fees.

If approved by the executive committee, he shall become a Associate Intern of the Society under clause (C) of Rule 1(member with non-voting rights) and shall be entitled to the rights and privileges of the Society as stated in rule 5.4 only.

An Associate Intern can use the title of the “Intern Building Designer” without making any Payment of fee.

An Associate Intern must have to work for three years under the supervision of a licensed building designer which must be a Member of IIBD. After successful completion of his Internship he will grant a certificate of completion of his internship after that he can apply for Associate Membership. After getting a license of a building designer/engineer from regulated area or development authority or municipal corporation he can also apply for the Member.

An Associate Intern will must obtain Two Hundred CE (continuing education) hours in each and every year.

The Executive committee may waive requirements of a formal degree or experience in special deserving cases.

R.4.6 Student Member: A student registered in a *stage-I or stage-II professional course of IIBD or an undergraduate or post-graduate course in engineering/Architecture/Building Design at an educational institution affiliated to a university or enjoying status of a deemed university as approved by the University Grants Commission, can be enrolled as a Student Member. He should not be drawing any salary or emoluments other than scholarships or fellowships.

A student member will not have the right to vote or right to hold elective office in the Society. He will, however, be eligible to participate in all activities of a chapter, if enrolled in one such chapter.

A student member could, at a later date and if satisfying the conditions of membership, become an Associate-intern by paying the requisite subscription fee. However, he will not have to pay the admission/registration fee.

A Student Member will must obtain two hundred CE (continuing education) hours in each and every year.

R.4.7 Sustaining Member: Any institution or a recognised statutory body, a Department of the Central or the State Government or a Registered Commercial or Industrial undertaking interested in the technology and applications of BUILDING DESIGN and agreeing to promote the aims and objectives of the Society and to assist financially in the work of the Society shall be eligible to become a Sustaining Member. The approval of the Executive committee shall be necessary. A Sustaining institution has the right to nominate one of their employees as a Sustaining Member. A Sustaining Member shall be entitled to the same rights and privileges as a Member except the right to vote and the right to hold elective office. The Sustaining Member shall be given the opportunity to have approved exhibits at the meetings of the Society at concessional rates.

A Sustaining Member will not have requirement of CE hours.

*The stage-I or stage-II professional course of IIBD may be conducted by IIBD in future independently or with the help of other professional Institution/University after legal formalities.

The Graduate Diploma of membership can not be used for getting employment in the state/central government unless it has been recognized by All India council of technical education but it can be used for professional purpose only for the sake of brevity.

Life Member: the member who pay a one time fee equal to ten times the annual fee will be the life member of IIBD and will not be required to pay annual subscription.
